General - Tropical Island Essentials

Don’t forget—you’re visiting a tropical island !

São Tomé has a variety of microclimates (see map section).

While the northern region tends to be relatively dry, the central mountainous area often experiences frequent afternoon rain showers.

Though there are slight annual variations in weather, the dry season generally runs from June to September, with a shorter dry spell in January and February.

November is typically a rainy month, but rainfall is spread evenly across the island. In the north, including the capital, the skies remain cloudy during the dry season, and the ocean tends to be rougher. However, this season is perfect for whale watching and provides excellent conditions for hiking and trekking.
