Family Adventure to Angolares Waterfall

Enjoy a memorable family adventure in São Tomé with the Angolares Waterfall hike, a shorter and accessible experience through lush cocoa plantations leading to the highest waterfall on the island. This family-friendly hike combines nature, light adventure, and cultural heritage, ideal for families with young children.

Scenic Start from Roça Ponta Figo

Your guided Angolares Waterfall hike begins with pickup at Roça Ponta Figo in Neves, followed by a 20-minute scenic drive into the mountainous interior. The changing landscapes set the tone for an immersive walk in a preserved natural environment.

Hiking Through Cocoa Plantations

The hike starts among traditional cocoa plantations, where the air carries the natural scent of cocoa in production. Depending on the season, you may observe cocoa at different stages of growth. The 45-minute ascent through dense vegetation leads to an old bridge marking the entrance to a historic Portuguese-era water tunnel.

Angolares Waterfall Hike and Tunnel Exploration

A key highlight of the Angolares Waterfall hike is the exploration of one historic water tunnel, an important remnant of São Tomé’s colonial infrastructure. Walking through this tunnel offers an intimate connection with the island’s history and a unique sensory experience in a cool, enclosed environment.

Angolares Waterfall: The Highest on São Tomé

At the end of the tunnel, you will encounter the impressive Angolares Waterfall, plunging from approximately 40 meters into a rocky natural basin. Surrounded by imposing rock formations and hidden within a mountain alcove, this waterfall creates a striking and unforgettable highlight of the excursion.

A Perfect Family-Friendly Hike

Designed as a shorter and easy-to-moderate hike, this experience is ideal for families with young children. The combination of gentle hiking, tunnel exploration, and the discovery of São Tomé’s highest waterfall makes this outing both educational and adventurous, creating lasting memories in a beautiful natural setting.
