Cabras Island & the Shipwreck – A Journey Through Nature and Wonders
Are you ready for a unique experience blending land, sea, and a touch of forgotten history? 🌊🐢
Welcome to Cabras Island and its mysterious shipwreck!
Just a short boat ride north of São Tomé city, you’ll find a hidden natural gem: Cabras Island, known locally as Ilhéu das Cabras. This small island is famous for its lighthouse, perched atop a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of São Tomé city and the scenic northern coastline.
Crystal-clear waters surround the island, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling and underwater exploration. Swim among vibrant tropical fish, graceful octopuses, and colorful corals in a calm and protected environment. And if you're lucky, you might even encounter sea turtles—mainly green turtles and olive ridleys—who have made these waters their home.
After enjoying the underwater world, take a walk up to the lighthouse. The view from the top is absolutely unforgettable, a moment of pure connection with nature and the ocean.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there…
Not far from the island lies a hauntingly beautiful shipwreck, resting about 9 meters underwater. Now an artificial reef, this rusting structure has become a refuge for countless marine creatures, creating an unexpected and fascinating diving spot.
Be cautious while exploring, as the corroded metal of the wreck can be sharp or unstable. But witnessing this submerged giant, slowly being reclaimed by nature, is an experience that’s both thrilling and humbling.
The meeting point for the start of activity is any beach in the Capital (Lagarto beach, São Pedro Chapel, or Pestana/Emoyeni beach).
We provide basic life jackets. If you'd like to use a life jacket for snorkeling and swimming, please inform us in advance so we can ensure you have the best equipment.
In case of doubt, we will send you yhe GPS location.

The iron structure of the shipwreck is sharp... Careful when you approach it. Also, when diving, do not enter the ship, as there are risk of getting stuck... Anyhow... our crew will be watching !
